Description
The MASS DESTRUCTION is a high performance grom board designed specifically for groms taking their competitive surfing to the ultimate level.
Gav took THE ELITE model and modified it into a high performance grom board.
The design came about from Gav seeing groms free surfing and competitive surfing around Australia and abroad, where he saw their standard grom boards just weren’t keeping up with their new and progressive style of surfing. Groms are doing things these days that they weren’t doing 5 years ago.
Prior to the introduction of the MASS DESTRUCTION, the normal progression of performance surfboards from grom to young adult was THE CUB followed by either THE ELITE or the J-FORCE. However, given the surfing ability of young surfers these days is increasing faster than their age, we had to add a model into our range to assist these groms in their progression, so they don’t lose momentum and keep taking their surfing to new heights.
And so the MASS DESTRUCTION was born … the perfect stepping stone between THE CUB and THE ELITE/J-FORCE, for those competing groms pushing their surfing ability each and every time they step into the water.
The MASS DESTRUCTION has already proven itself to be a winner:
- Australian 1-DA Team Rider Matt Boyle winning the 2020 Woolworths QLD State Junior Surfing Titles, 2019 U16 Boys Qld State School Championships, 2019 14&U Boys Billabong Parko’s Grom Stomp and 2019 U16 All Stars Australian Championship at the Surf Dive n Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles;
- New Zealand 1-DA Evolving Team Rider Natasha Gouldsbury winning the 2020 U16 Girls Billabong Grom Series (NZ), 2019 U16 Girls Health 2000 National Surfing Championships and 2019 U16 Girls NZ National Scholastic Championships;
- Australian 1-DA Team Rider Josh Boule winning the winning the 2019 AirAsia Air Show at the Hydralyte Sports Shoalhaven Pro Junior, and 2019 & 2018 U19 Boys Qld State School Championships;
- Gold Coast Surfer Chez Bos winning the 2019 12&U Boys Rip Curl Grom Search National Final and 2019 U14 Boyls Woolworths QLD State Grommet Surfing Titles Series; and
- Argentinian Pro Surfer Josefina Ane winning the QS 1,000 in South Africa in April 2018 and the Argentina National Surfing Championship in 2018.

I wanted to get a new 1-DA board because my friends were riding them. I wanted to have more speed. My new board is great. I feel like I have more power and flow in my surfing now. Its so much easier to paddle into the waves too. I would say to other people to get a 1-DA.

From the moment I met Gav the board design process was super easy. Gav and I worked together looking at what I liked and didn’t like in my current board, my surfing and how I wanted to progress. End result – the Mass Destruction. The board feels really good under my feet especially when turning vertical off the bottom and can maintain speed throughout the turn which is something that my last board didn’t do. The board lands super stable on end sections and is fun to ride in all conditions. This board can hold it’s place in bigger waves and can drive down the line as well as hold speed through the fat sections in smaller waves. The Mass Destruction has been my favourite board so far! I’ve been riding my 5’6 MASS DESTRUCTION for about a month now and can say it is definitely one of the best boards I’ve had under my feet.

The board felt so good from the beginning and it was sick to finally ride a fresh board as all my other boards have been second hand. My mate had a 1-DA and I thought it rode really nice and sharp so I decided to order one. The board is really fast and easy to pick up speed from the take off. It turns fast and sharp and my surfing has improved since I got the board a couple months ago. My snaps have improved and my turns in general feel much more stable and secure. Gav was very helpful when ordering the board and recommended going up from my last board a 5’5 to a 5’6. This decision was perfect and I’m happy I went along with it. When I creased the nose in the first week 1-DA was very efficient and got the board back to me good as new in no time.

I was surfing a 4’ 9” performance board with a volume of 15.8 Litres and I loved the board. I also have another board of 5’ 0” and 18 Litres and it felt really big and I hated surfing it.
A few months ago, I surfed one of my mate’s boards and it was shaped by 1-DA. The board was sick to ride so I said to my dad I wanted one next time.
So a month later, Dad arranged for me to meet with Gavin from 1-DA. Gav was very supportive and listened to what I wanted, but there was one size he had in mind that he thought would be amazing for how my surfing was. The size that he had in mind was a Mass Destruction 4’ 11”, with a volume of 17.02 Litres, which is bigger than I wanted and it was in between sizes of both my boards.
I am so glad he told me to get this size, as it is the best board I’ve ever ridden. It’s so epic to turn and it has improved my surfing so much.
